Massport Calls CDC After Delta And Avianca Flights Arrive At Logan International Airport With Ill Passengers

Officals at Boston Logan International Airport reached out to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) after two flights reported members of the crew or passengers feeling unwell on Sunday. Operations at the airport were not affected, and all parties made a full recovery.

What happened?

As first reported by the Boston Globe, two flights into Boston Logan Airport (BOS) on Sunday, November 24th, 2025, landed around the same time with reports of ill passengers. Emergency services teams responded swiftly and were on hand at arrival, with two people ultimately transported to receive further care.

The flights were operated by separate airlines and landed within half an hour of each other early on Sunday afternoon. When reached for comment by Simple Flying, a spokesperson for the Massachusetts Port Authority confirmed that the calls had been made out of an abundance of caution:

“Massport Fire responded to two flights (Delta and Avianca) that came in around the same time yesterday afternoon with passengers complaining of illness.

“We reached out to the CDC out of an abundance of caution”.

Both of the flights landed in Boston earlier than initially scheduled.

What were the affected flights?

The first affected flight was an avianca service from San Salvador, the capital of El Salvador in Central America. The Airbus A320 aircraft (registered N902AV) departed the city’s El Salvador International Airport Saint Óscar Arnulfo Romero y Galdámez (SAL) slightly behind schedule at 07:56 on Sunday morning.

Based on flight tracking data from Flightradae24, The flight took just over four and a half hours. It landed 16 minutes ahead of schedule at 13:34. Speaking to Simple Flying, a spokesperson for the airline confirmed there was a passenger illness but that there were no other issues on the flight:

“On flight Av444 covering the route between San Salvador and Boston, a case of a sick passenger was reported, but no additional irregularities occurred.”

When reached by Simple Flying, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention was able to share that a child experienced one episode of vomiting on the flight but had no other known symptoms or exposures and made a swift recovery.

Less than half an hour later, the second flight touched down in Massachusetts. The service in question was Delta Air Lines flight 225 from Paris Charles De Gaulle Airport (CDG). The Airbus A330-900neo flight departed France just over an hour behind schedule at 12:53 for the seven-hour flight.

While it was not immediately apparent if the flight was given expedited clearance, it managed to make up for the late departure and landed in Boston at 13:59, nine minutes ahead of schedule. When reached for comment, a Delta Air Lines spokesperson confirmed that no customers reported illnesses and that there were no ensuing delays or cancelations.

The CDC separately verified that two airline crew members experienced lightheadedness and were transported to a local hospital for further evaluation. The hospital found no evidence of a contagious disease of public health concern, and both crew members were discharged.
