In a significant administrative decision, the Ministry of Coal has entrusted the additional charge of the post of Director (Human Resources), Coal India Limited (CIL) to Mukesh Chaudhary, Director (Marketing), CIL.

According to an official order issued by the Ministry of Coal (No. 21/20/2026-ESTABLISHMENT), the approval has been accorded by the Hon’ble Minister of Coal for entrusting the additional responsibility to Mukesh Chaudhary for an initial period of three months with effect from July 28, 2026, or until the appointment of a regular incumbent, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

The communication, signed by Arik Basu Roy Chowdhury, Section Officer (Establishment-B), Ministry of Coal, has been addressed to the Chairman and Managing Director of Coal India Limited, directing the company to implement the arrangement from the stipulated date.

Mukesh Chaudhary, who has been serving as Director (Marketing) at Coal India, will now oversee the company’s Human Resources portfolio in addition to his existing responsibilities. His appointment is expected to ensure continuity in HR leadership at India’s largest coal-producing company while the process for selecting a regular Director (HR) is completed.

The development comes following the completion of the tenure of the incumbent Director (HR), Vinay Ranjan, whose term concludes on July 27, 2026. The Ministry has opted for an interim arrangement to avoid any administrative vacuum in the company’s HR leadership.

Coal India Limited, a Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Coal, is the world’s largest coal producer and plays a pivotal role in meeting India’s energy requirements. The additional charge arrangement is expected to ensure uninterrupted functioning of the company’s HR operations until a regular Director (HR) is appointed.
