NICDC engages WB Govt. and Industry to advance industrial development

KOLKATA : The National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (NICDC) has stepped up engagement with the Government of West Bengal and industry stakeholders to advance the development of investment-ready industrial ecosystems and strengthen the state’s manufacturing and logistics potential.

Shri Rajat Kumar Saini, IAS, CEO & MD, NICDC, met the Hon’ble Finance Minister, Government of West Bengal, and briefed him on the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme (NICDP) and NICDC’s ongoing efforts to develop world-class, investment-ready industrial regions across the country.

During the interaction, Shri Saini also apprised the Minister about the BHAVYA Scheme, which seeks to facilitate the development of investment-ready industrial infrastructure through a structured partnership framework.

A key focus of the discussions was the proposed Durgapur Industrial Node under the East Coast Industrial Corridor (ECIC). The proposed industrial node has the potential to leverage West Bengal’s established industrial base, strategic location and logistics connectivity to attract new investments, strengthen manufacturing value chains and create employment opportunities.

Shri Saini subsequently met the Chief Secretary, Government of West Bengal, and discussed the BHAVYA Scheme as well as the proposed Durgapur Industrial Node, reinforcing the importance of close coordination between NICDC and the State Government for accelerating industrial development.

As part of the engagement with the industry, Shri Saini also interacted with industry representatives at Panagarh Industrial Park to understand their requirements and assess the on-ground business environment. The discussions covered key areas including industrial infrastructure, utilities, logistics, local support systems and measures to further improve the ease of doing business for investors and industrial enterprises.

The interactions underline NICDC’s focus on adopting a collaborative approach involving Central and State Governments, industry and other stakeholders to create globally competitive industrial ecosystems. With strategic industrial nodes, improved connectivity and investment-ready infrastructure, initiatives such as the proposed Durgapur Industrial Node are expected to contribute to manufacturing growth, employment generation, supply-chain development and regional economic activity.

NICDC reiterated its commitment to working closely with State Governments and industry stakeholders to accelerate industrial development and support the broader national vision of Viksit Bharat.
