Pankaj Kumar Gupta has taken charge as the Head of Project at NTPC Limited’s Kanti Thermal Power Station. Currently serving as Chief General Manager, Gupta brings with him more than 34 years of rich experience in the power sector.
A seasoned power sector professional, Gupta joined NTPC in 1991 as an Executive Trainee and has since held several key positions across the organization. Over the course of his distinguished career, he has made significant contributions in the areas of project engineering, mechanical systems, energy transition, environmental management, and strategic planning.
Prior to his new assignment, Gupta served at various NTPC establishments, including NTPC Kahalgaon, the Corporate Centre, the Energy Transition & Policy Group, and NTPC Meja, where he handled several critical responsibilities and strategic initiatives.
Academically, Gupta has an impressive background. He holds a B.Tech degree in Mechanical Engineering from University of Lucknow and an M.Tech in Applied Mechanics from Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. He has also participated in numerous national and international programmes focused on leadership development, clean energy technologies, sustainability, project management, and emerging energy solutions.
With an installed capacity of 390 MW, NTPC Kanti is among Bihar’s prominent power-generating stations and plays a crucial role in meeting the growing electricity demand of Bihar and the eastern region of the country. The station has consistently delivered strong performance in operational efficiency, safety standards, environmental management, and stakeholder engagement.
NTPC Kanti has also earned recognition for its commitment to sustainable and inclusive development through a range of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. These include the Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM), education support programmes, healthcare initiatives, community welfare projects, plantation drives, water conservation efforts, and other environmental sustainability measures.
