Residents of the United States will soon have a new option to accumulate Avios frequent flyer miles. Qatar Airways, a member of the oneworld Alliance, has launched the waitlist for its new cobranded Visa credit cards.
What do we know?
The airline has confirmed there will be two versions of the card, which is set to launch in “early May.” Prospective card applicants can now join the official waitlist to be the first to know more and receive extra Avios in addition to the standard sign-up bonus.
Applicants who join the waitlist and are approved for the card within 30 days of launch will be eligible to receive an extra 5,000 bonus Avios on the Visa Signature variant and an additional 10,000 bonus Avios on the Visa Infinite version on top of the standard welcome bonus after meeting minimum spending requirements.
The cards will be issued in conjunction with Cardless, the company behind recent cobranded credit card offerings for TAP Air Portugal and avianca. There are currently three cobranded airline credit cards that earn Avios in the United States. All three cards are offered by Chase and provide a significant welcome bonus, which is currently set to 85,000 Avios.

Further details will be revealed in the coming days, but the cards are expected to offer benefits for frequent travelers and additional Avios and airline status earning opportunities.
Who is set to benefit?
The cards target travelers who fly often on Qatar Airways, oneworld carriers, and codeshare partners. The new offerings also offer an additional option to earn Avios for US-based customers, which can often be transferred to other airline programs. As an air miles currency, Avios stands out based on the fact it is used by so many different airlines.

Finnair is the most recent addition to the Avios family after implementing the currency earlier this year. While Avios can already be earned and spent on Finnair flights and program partners, the points cannot yet be transferred to other airline loyalty programs.
