  • Qatar Airways resumes daily service to Venice, its third Italian gateway, with Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners.
  • Travelers can connect to Venice via Qatar Airways’ partners – Iberia and Vueling, with one-stop itineraries.
  • Recent expansions include service resumption to Lisbon and plans to launch Hamburg flights in July.

Doha-based Qatar Airways has resumed its service to Venice with a direct daily flight, increasing the carrier’s European connectivity in time for the northern Summer season. This will be the airline’s third Italian gateway.

Increasing number of destinations

Relaunched on Wednesday, June 12th, this marks the return of Qatar Airways to Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE) with daily non-stop service from the airline hub at Hamad International Airport (DOH). The carrier has chosen to operate this route with its fleet of Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners to provide passengers traveling to this popular summer gateway with a comfortable experience.

The itinerary for services to Venice and back is as follows –

While the Venice-bound service has a flight time of around six hours, the eastbound flight back to Doha has a flight time of five hours.

Qatar Airways CCO, Thierry Antinori, in the airline press release stated,

“As we enter the summer season, we are excited to resume our daily service to Venice. Italy is a key market for Qatar Airways, and we are committed to providing our passengers with more travel opportunities and seamless connections to explore this wonderful country.”

The two other Italian gateways that Qatar Airways flies to are Rome Leonardo da Vinci Fiumiciono Airport (FCO) and Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP), both of which are served with three daily non-stop flights. With the return to Venice, Qatar Airways’ operations to Italy will increase from 42 weekly flights to 49 weekly flights.

Partner connections

While Qatar Airways now offers non-stop flights to Venice, it is still lacking in frequency when compared to the airline’s services to MXP and FCO. However, the carrier does offer passengers seamless connectivity to Venice via its codeshare partners based in Europe. Apart from Qatar Airways’ direct service, the airline offers nine other one-stop itineraries that are partly or entirely operated by the carrier’s European partners – Iberia or Vueling Airlines.

Qatar Airways offers one-stop connections to Venice via Madrid (operated by Qatar Airways and Iberia or solely Iberia) and Barcelona (flights to Barcelona operated by Qatar Airways and onward connections offered by Vueling).

It is worth noting that the shortest one-stop service offered has a total flight(s) time plus layover time of over 11 hours and 25 minutes, while the longest one-stop service has an estimated flight(s) plus layover duration of nearly 25 hours.

Recent expansions

The service resumption to Venice comes on the heels of the airline’s service resumption to the Portuguese capital – Lisbon. This was a service that was stopped due to the pandemic and Lisbon is finally back on Qatar Airways’ route network, with the airline operating six weekly flights.
