RITES Limited has emerged as the lowest bidder (L-1) for a major international railway contract floated by Sri Lanka Railways for the supply of Broad Gauge Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) train sets.

The proposed contract is valued at approximately Rs 400 crore, marking a significant potential addition to RITES’ international order book and strengthening its presence in the overseas railway market.

As per the tender conditions, the order is expected to be executed within 12 months from the opening of the Letter of Credit (LC).

However, the contract is yet to be formally awarded. The tender is currently subject to final scrutiny and completion of the requisite documentation before the formal contract award.

The development is significant for RITES, a public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Railways, as it continues to pursue international business opportunities in railway infrastructure, rolling stock supply, consultancy and transportation engineering.
