Royal Jordanian Airlines To Launch Amman-Washington DC Flight

Oneworld Alliance carrier Royal Jordanian is set to begin flights to Washington DC next spring. The airline will connect Jordan’s capital city of Amman with Washington DC’s Dulles International Airport using a Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

Royal Jordanian Airlines will begin the new nonstop service between Amman’s Queen Alia International Airport (AMM) and Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) on March 23rd, 2025. The service will be a year-round operation when it commences and will be Royal Jordanian Airlines’ first nonstop connection between Amman and Washington.

In a statement announcing the new link. The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan’s Ambassador to the United States, Dina Kawar, dubbed the link a bridge across worlds that will allow travelers to feel the pulse of Jordan’s rich tapestry, its ancient landscapes, its modern rhythms, and its fierce embrace of both heritage and future, noting:

“For those who venture to Jordan, whether out of curiosity, a need to reconnect, or the call of commerce, this flight will be a seamless journey into a place that exists both outside of time and firmly in the now.”

The flights will operate twice a week on Tuesdays and Sundays using a Boeing 787 aircraft configured for 270 passengers in business and economy class. The service will run at the following times when it begins in March.

Royal Jordanian will not face any direct competition on the route to Amman. The link was previously operated by Star Alliance carrier United Airlines, which suspended the service in August of this year. Royal Jordanian CEO Samer Majali expressed his excitement for the link to begin in the spring:

“Our upcoming first flight between the two capitals, Washington, D.C., and Amman, marks a significant milestone in RJ’s global expansion strategy, making this the fourth U.S. city we fly directly to.

“By linking these two dynamic markets, we aim to stimulate tourism, trade and investment opportunities. This crucial connection provides seamless connectivity to the Gulf, Levant and North Africa, reinforcing our commitment to providing exceptional service and connecting people across the globe, aligning with RJ’s five-year expansion strategy.”

In addition to Washington Dulles, the Jordanian flag carrier also serves Chicago O’Hare, Detroit, New York JFK, and Montreal in Canada.

Another win for Dulles

This year has been a bumper year for Washington Dulles in terms of new routes. For the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority’s Executive Vice President and Chief Revenue Officer Chryssa Westerlund, this new link is vital for boosting tourism and business ties between the new capital cities:

Royal Jordanian is far from the only international airline to announce a link to Washington Dulles this year. In April, Lufthansa Group Carrier SWISS began flights to Zurich (ZRH). Aeromexico followed in the summer with flights to Mexico City (MEX). Home carrier United Airlines also moved several of its domestic feeder routes down from Newark and added long-haul links to Dakar Blaise Diagne International Airport (DSS), Senegal, Nice Côte d’Azur Airport (NCE), France, and Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE) in Italy.
