NEW DELHI : The Association of Container Train Operators (ACTO) has appointed Shri Sanjiv Garg as Senior Advisor, in a strategic move aimed at further strengthening India’s container rail logistics sector and supporting the development of a more efficient, competitive and resilient freight transportation ecosystem.
Shri Sanjiv Garg is a former Additional Member, Railway Board, and former Managing Director of Pipavav Railway Corporation Limited. He currently serves as Secretary General of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport – India (CILT India).
With a distinguished career in Indian Railways, Shri Garg has held senior operational and commercial responsibilities, gaining extensive experience in railway operations, freight movement, logistics, infrastructure and transportation management. His professional expertise spans several critical areas that are closely aligned with the evolving requirements of India’s container rail sector.
In addition to his extensive railway and logistics experience, Shri Garg has contributed to capacity-building initiatives through his association with the Capacity Building Commission’s National Standards for Civil Services Training Institutions (NSCSTI). He has served as an assessor and mentor under the initiative, including undertaking assessment assignments during 2025 and 2026.
As Senior Advisor to ACTO, Shri Garg will provide strategic guidance and industry insights on issues concerning the growth and development of containerised rail freight in India. His experience is expected to further strengthen ACTO’s engagement with policymakers, regulators, railway stakeholders and industry participants.
The appointment comes at a time when India is placing increasing emphasis on multimodal logistics, rail-based freight transportation, supply-chain efficiency and reduced logistics costs. A stronger container rail network will play an important role in supporting seamless cargo movement between ports, logistics hubs, industrial centres and markets across the country.
ACTO expressed confidence that Shri Garg’s extensive experience and institutional knowledge will contribute significantly to its efforts to develop a stronger, more efficient and globally competitive container rail logistics ecosystem in India.
The appointment further reinforces ACTO’s commitment to bringing together industry expertise, policy perspectives and operational experience to support the continued growth of rail-based containerised freight and multimodal logistics in the country.
