Stretchable sensory device converts underwater ultrasound into artificial neural signals

A research team led by Nae-Eung Lee, a professor at the School of Advanced Materials Science and Engineering at Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU), has developed a material that can stretch like rubber while generating electricity. Using the material, the team created an “artificial ultrasonic sensory synapse” that mimics the way dolphins use ultrasound to perceive their underwater surroundings.
