His versatility as a presenter has enabled him to excel across news, politics and sports broadcasting, earning him the Best Sports Presenter Award at the Annual News Television Awards in 2007.
Born in Gaya, Bihar, Darain is the son of the eminent Urdu poet and Professor of Anthropology, Dr. Shahid Ahmed Shoaib. Despite his remarkable success in television journalism, he has remained deeply connected to his cultural roots. A passionate theatre artist, he has performed in nearly two dozen Urdu and Hindi plays and continues to keep alive the centuries-old art of Dastangoi, a tradition that has earned him admiration across the country.
Fondly known as “Darain Bhai” among friends and colleagues, he infused the awards ceremony with grace, humour and literary brilliance.
