Miami is the main destination of Avianca’s network in the United States.

According to the airline, the new aircraft livery symbolizes avianca’s belief in the extraordinary and its commitment to supporting sports initiatives across the Americas. The aircraft chosen to carry the team’s name and logo is an Airbus A320-200. Registered N416AV, the aircraft took its first flight in 2009 and was delivered to avianca the following year. The plane is configured to carry 180 passengers, with 12 seats in business class and the remaining 168 in economy. Ana Maria Copete, Managing Director & Head of Commercial Development for avianca, highlighted the airline’s partnership with the NFL team and commitment to promoting sports:

“We have committed ourselves to being the best at what we do, partnering with brands and people who bring us together while sharing our values and dedication, knowing our partnership with the Miami Dolphins embodies that spirit.

“As we unveil our new livery, we celebrate not only our support for the Dolphins but also our longstanding dedication to promoting sports throughout Latin America.”

The team is the oldest major-league professional sports franchise in the state of Florida, having joined the NFL as part of the AFL-NFL merger in 1970. The organization has played in five Super Bowls and won the championship following the 1972 (VII) and 1973 (VIII) seasons. The Dolphins’ home games are played at the Hard Rock Stadium, around 15 miles from Miami International Airport (MIA).

All across the Americas

The partnership is also expected to increase traffic with the carrier and boost the Dolphins brand across Latin America. Miami is the Colombian flag carrier’s largest market in the United States. Avianca currently operates seven direct routes from Miami to South and Central America, to destinations including Bogotá, Barranquilla, Medellín, Cartagena, Cali, San Salvador, and Managua.

High Demand: Inside avianca’s Growing United States Network

Miami is the carrier’s leading US destination.

Avianca is one of the oldest airlines in the world and one of only a handful of carriers over the age of 100, having started operations in 1919. Its foray into sports initiatives is much more recent, beginning in 2013. The Dolphins partnership is expected to help both brands grow across Latin America. The Miami Dolphins Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, Pri Shumate, noted how significant the partnership is to both parties:

“As the only NFL team with global marketing rights in Colombia, we are thrilled to support Avianca as we embark on an exciting journey to engage with our international fans in Latin America.

“Together, we are committed to expanding our brands internationally, fostering connections and celebrating the vibrant culture and passion of our Latin American community.”

The carrier’s frequent flyer program, lifemiles, has also been gaining attention in recent months. Often regarded as one of the more rewarding Star Alliance loyalty programs with over 14 million members, lifemiles launched two US credit cards that come with elite status earlier this year and has been actively courting US frequent flyers.
