United Airlines Schedules One-Time Boeing 767 167-Seat Flight From Washington Dulles To Newark On April 1st

United Airlines

has scheduled a domestic flight using a Boeing 767-300ER on April 1, operating between Washington and Newark. While this may be a repositioning flight, tickets are available for purchase.

As flagged by AeroRoutes, United Airlines has scheduled a one-time 767-300ER service from Washington Dulles International Airport

(IAD) to Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) on April 1.

The carrier’s booking engine showed that the flight was available for booking, with passengers being able to buy economy, economy plus, and business/first class tickets on the 167-seat 767-300ER

.

According to the airline’s website, its 767-300ERs have two different configurations: 46 business, 22 premium economy, and 99 economy, or 30 business, 24 premium economy, 32 economy plus, and 117 economy class seats.

Repositioning?

While data from the aviation analytics company Cirium’s Diio Mi airline planning tool affirmed that the airline would operate the flight on April 1, it currently remains unclear why United Airlines loaded the one-time flight onto its schedules.

At the same time, Cirium’s Diio Mi schedules showed that its premium-heavy, 167-seat 767-300ER aircraft will undergo schedule changes as the International Air Transport Association (IATA) seasons change from winter to summer on March 30.

In March, the 167-seat 767-300ERs still have daily flights between Washington-Dulles and Zurich Airport

(ZRH). However, in April, the daily flights will be operated by a 767-300ER with 203 seats, or the configuration with 30 business, 24 premium economy, 32 economy plus, and 117 economy class seats.

In contrast, the premium-heavy 767-300ERs will gain eight extra weekly departures from Newark

in April compared to March, including one weekly flight to London Heathrow Airport

(LHR), three weekly itineraries to Athens Airport (ATH), and daily flights to Nice Côte d’Azur Airport (NCE) and Naples Airport (NAP).

At the same time, the 167-seat 767-300ERs will no longer operate the three weekly flights to Marrakesh Menara Airport (RAK) and daily itineraries to Paris Charles De Gaulle Airport

(CDG).

While the former is a seasonal route, on the flights to Paris, United Airlines will slot in the 767-400ER, which has 34 business, 24 premium economy, and 173 economy seats, according to its fleet site. In addition to the daily 767-400ER service, the airline has another daily flight to the French capital in April, operated by a 777-200ER.

The market could only improve. Andrew Nocella, the executive vice president and chief commercial officer (CCO), remarked during the carrier’s Q4 2024 earnings call on January 22, one fact that might be underappreciated is that Europe is becoming more of a year-round destination.

According to Nocella, Europe has always performed poorly during the first three months of the year, particularly from January 15 through mid-March. Now, the airline is seeing a different result, with passengers willingly booking a Southern Europe vacation during the colder months, which helps United Airlines deseasonalize its European network.
