A major industrial tragedy struck Sakti district on Tuesday after a boiler explosion at a Vedanta Power Plant in Singhitari village claimed at least 11 lives and left 22 others injured, triggering panic across the facility.

According to initial reports, the explosion occurred around 2 PM, when a large number of workers were present inside the plant. The sudden blast created chaos, leading to a stampede-like situation as workers rushed to escape the premises. Nearly 30–40 workers are reported to have sustained serious injuries, many of whom remain in critical condition.

The injured were immediately rushed to nearby hospitals, while emergency response teams and local administration officials reached the site promptly and initiated rescue operations.

Prime Minister Announces Ex-Gratia Relief

Expressing grief over the tragic incident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced ex-gratia compensation for the victims from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF).

  • ₹2 lakh for the next of kin of each deceased
  • ₹50,000 for those injured

In a post on X, the Prime Minister conveyed his condolences and stated that authorities are providing all necessary assistance to those affected.

Cause Yet to Be Determined

Officials have not yet confirmed the exact cause of the explosion, and a detailed investigation is expected to be initiated to ascertain the reasons behind the mishap.

The incident has once again raised serious concerns over industrial safety protocols and compliance at large-scale power plants, particularly in high-risk operations involving boilers and heavy machinery.
