A hot debate has surfaced in New Zealand after a Taranaki-based mother started a petition that should ban g-string swimwear from public pools. Amy Dixon claimed her family is frequently exposed to the type of swimwear worn by young women at the Todd Energy Aquatic Centre. The petition has hit the New Zealand media, and many organizations have taken humor from the situation. Air New Zealand has joined in, advertising an extra 41,000 extra seats to the Pacific this Southern Hemisphere summer.
Air New Zealand, which operates all of its South Pacific destinations from its hub at Auckland International Airport, serves more airports in the region directly from New Zealand than any other airline. Its network includes New Caledonia, Samoa, Tonga, Niue, French Polynesia, Fiji, and the Cook Islands.

The airline has acknowledged that it has no opinion on what swimwear anyone should wear; however, used the current debate to highlight the carrier’s robust South Pacific network. Ir New Zealand chief customer and sales officer Leanne Geraghty shared with the New Zealand Herald:
“We were just having a little bit of cheeky fun — we’re not going to try and offend anyone, but we think it’s a great way to highlight all the fabulous island destinations we have on the network.”

Increases to its other South Pacific destinations, New Caledonia (Noumea La Tontouta International Airport – NOU) and Niue (Niue International Airport – IBU), have not been advertised to have had their frequencies increased.
Air New Zealand continued in the debate about the g-string controversy, noting that travelers should forget about swimming at their local aquatic center and switch the pool for the beach and sunshine; Geraghty continued:
“Forget the indoor aquatic centres and the petitions that come with them. With more seats to the Pacific it’s time to escape to the beach and sunshine. Customers will be smiling cheek to cheek with so many seats available. This summer is all about being a beach bum.”
Jokes aside, the Taranaki-based aquatic center said it would consider all feedback before deciding what is deemed acceptable swimwear at the facility.
