QCI and BHEL Jointly Organize Inter PSU Gunvatta Manthan to Promote Quality and Operational Excellence in PSUs – Indian PSU
The Quality Council of India (QCI), in association with Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), organized the Inter PSU Gunvatta Manthan at BHEL’s corporate headquarters in New Delhi, bringing together leading Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) to promote a culture of quality and operational excellence.
The event highlighted QCI’s pivotal role in advancing India’s national quality movement through structured frameworks, excellence models, and collaborative learning. Participating PSUs shared their best practices and initiatives in Six Sigma, Lean, Quality Circles, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), digital automation, and supplier development programmes. The interactive sessions enabled benchmarking of practices and identification of improvement areas across industries.
Led by Dr. Durgesh C. Gupta, Head of Corporate Quality and Business Excellence at BHEL, and organized in collaboration with the National Accreditation Board for Certification Bodies (NABCB) – QCI, the event saw participation from major CPSUs including BEL, BPCL, EIL, GAIL, IOCL, PGCIL, and THDC. The platform encouraged dialogue on enhancing business excellence, supply chain quality, digital transformation, and sustainability-oriented performance.
Jaxay Shah, Chairperson, QCI, emphasized that QCI remains steadfast in strengthening the quality ecosystem across Indian industries, including both PSUs and the private sector. He noted that Inter PSU Gunvatta Manthan is a significant step toward building globally competitive, quality-driven institutions contributing to the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
In his keynote address, S. M. Ramanathan, Director (R&D), BHEL, underscored the vital role of PSUs in India’s socio-economic development. He highlighted the need for simplicity and effectiveness “from design to delivery,” ensuring that quality outcomes lead to improved customer satisfaction and operational efficiency.
Dr. Ravi P. Singh, Chairperson, NABCB, reaffirmed the importance of a credible and competent quality assurance framework across enterprises, stressing the need to strengthen conformity assessment mechanisms for enhancing the international reliability of Indian quality systems.
The event concluded with a joint session led by QCI and BHEL outlining potential models for institutional collaboration — including tailored quality partnerships and maturity enhancement programmes. The Inter PSU Gunvatta Manthan reaffirmed QCI and BHEL’s shared commitment to promoting quality-oriented governance and operational excellence across India’s public sector enterprises.
