Delta Air Lines plane bound for Italy was canceled last night after a fire broke out in one of the engines. No passengers, staff, or ground crew were harmed in the incident, which resulted in a brief halt to flights at the Massachusetts airport.
What happened to flight DL 112?
The red-eye flight to Rome’s Leonardo da Vinci Fiumicino Airport (FCO) was scheduled to depart at 18:05 on Tuesday. According to flight tracking data, the aircraft pulled back on time but never made it into the air.

According to preliminary information provided to Simple Flying by the FAA, the Delta Air Lines Flight 112 crew reported an engine issue before departure at Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) around 19:00 local time on Tuesday. The airport responded swiftly as Fire & Rescue went out to meet the plane and safely extinguished a fire on the No. 1 engine.
When reached for comment, a spokesperson for Delta Air Lines confirmed that there were no reports of injuries among the 152 customers or crew members onboard the Airbus A330-300. The aircraft then safely taxied back to the gate, where everyone was safely unloaded.
When will the plane fly again?
The airline confirmed that the plane was brought in for further inspections following the incident. After additional safety checks, the Delta teams determined additional maintenance was required, resulting in the cancelation of this flight. A Delta official confirmed that the airline was actively rebooking passengers who were affected by the cancelation:
“Delta flight 112 from Boston (BOS) to Rome (FCO) canceled takeoff after the crew received an indication of an engine issue.
“Delta teams are working to reaccommodate our customers and we apologize for the inconvenience and delay.”

The aircraft, registered N815NW, is an Airbus A330-323, first ordered by Northwest Airlines and delivered in 2007. According to data from ch-aviation, It was officially rolled into the Delta fleet with the same registration in December 2009 and has been flying with the airline ever since. It is next scheduled to fly on Friday from Atlanta to Amsterdam.
Another A330 (N821NW), which arrived in Boston earlier this afternoon from Atlanta, is scheduled to operate this evening’s Rome flight.
