IIM Jammu Launches Leadership Development Programme for NBCC Managers to Strengthen Future-Ready Leadership – Indian PSU

The Indian Institute of Management Jammu (IIM Jammu) has inaugurated a three-day Management Development Programme (MDP) on Leadership Skills for Managers for executives of the National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC) Ltd. at the Vedanta MDP Centre, IIM Jammu.

Scheduled from June 22 to 24, 2026, the programme aims to enhance leadership capabilities, strategic thinking, managerial effectiveness, and decision-making skills among professionals contributing to India’s infrastructure and nation-building initiatives.

The inaugural session was presided over by Debasis Satapathy, Executive Director, NBCC Ltd., and Prof. Jabir Ali, Dean, Faculty & Research, IIM Jammu. The ceremony was also attended by Programme Directors Dr. Vaseem Akram, Dr. Malaya Ranjan Mohapatra, and Dr. Pratik Maheshwari. A total of 29 participants from across India are attending the programme.

Leadership and Continuous Learning Key to Growth

Addressing the participants, Debasis Satapathy emphasized that while professional expertise remains essential, leadership capabilities and a commitment to continuous learning are equally critical for career progression and organizational success.

He noted that managers must prepare themselves for higher responsibilities as organizations evolve and leadership transitions occur. Appreciating IIM Jammu’s modern infrastructure and Nalanda Library, he encouraged participants to maximize the learning opportunity.

Drawing inspiration from the Mahabharata, particularly the story of Abhimanyu in the Chakravyuh and the contrasting journeys of Arjuna and Jaydrath under Guru Dronacharya, Satapathy highlighted the importance of focus, perseverance, and continuous self-improvement. Referring to the principle of “sharpening the saw,” he stressed that adaptability, learning agility, and sustained focus are indispensable qualities for effective leadership.

Transitioning from Skills to Leadership

Prof. Jabir Ali underlined the significance of training programmes in preparing professionals for greater leadership responsibilities. He observed that while India has made remarkable strides in infrastructure development and institution-building, significant opportunities remain for future contributions.

Encouraging participants to embrace leadership-oriented responsibilities, he urged them to broaden their perspectives, enhance competencies, and contribute more effectively to both their organizations and the nation.

IIM Jammu Highlights Executive Education Initiatives

Welcoming the participants, Prof. Prashant Mishra, Chairperson, Executive Education & Consultancy (EE&C), IIM Jammu, highlighted NBCC’s pivotal role in nation-building and infrastructure development.

He provided an overview of IIM Jammu’s executive education initiatives and emphasized the institute’s commitment to delivering impactful learning interventions for organizations. Stressing the importance of peer learning, he encouraged participants to learn, unlearn, and relearn through interactions with faculty members and fellow professionals.

Providing an overview of the programme, Dr. Pratik Maheshwari, Programme Director, IIM Jammu, described the training as a multidisciplinary initiative designed to address contemporary leadership and managerial challenges.
