India to Host 11th BRICS Energy Ministers’ Meeting in Gurugram on June 25–26 – Indian PSU
India will host the 11th BRICS Energy Ministers’ Meeting in Gurugram, Haryana, on June 25–26, 2026, under its BRICS Chairship 2026, bringing together energy ministers and senior officials from all BRICS member nations to strengthen cooperation on energy security, sustainability, innovation and equitable energy access.
The meeting assumes special significance as India leads BRICS for the fourth time after its earlier chairships in 2012, 2016 and 2021. Guided by the overarching theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability (BRICS)”, India has adopted “Energy for All” as the theme of the Energy Track, highlighting the collective commitment of BRICS nations to universal energy access and sustainable growth.
Today, BRICS comprises 11 member countries—Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and United Arab Emirates—representing nearly half of the world’s population and around 40 per cent of global GDP.
Focus on Energy Security and Sustainable Growth
The meeting comes at a crucial time when nations worldwide are grappling with the challenge of balancing energy security, affordability and sustainability amid rising energy demand, climate concerns and rapid technological transformation.
India has structured the BRICS Energy Agenda around three core priorities:
- Energy Security and Sustainability
- Energy Access and Equity
- Technology and Innovation
These priorities align closely with India’s own development strategy, which focuses on ensuring reliable energy access, strengthening grid resilience, diversifying energy sources and expanding the share of clean energy in the national energy mix.
Showcasing India’s Energy Transformation
The ministerial meeting will also provide an opportunity for India to showcase its remarkable progress in building a future-ready energy ecosystem as part of its Viksit Bharat 2047 vision.
As the world’s third-largest producer and consumer of electricity, India has made significant advances in renewable energy and power sector reforms. Over the last decade, the country has expanded its solar power capacity by more than 50 times, installed over 60 million smart meters and set a target of achieving 410 GWh of energy storage capacity by 2032.
India has also strengthened its transmission and distribution infrastructure through major initiatives such as the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) and the One Sun One World One Grid (OSOWOG) initiative, while accelerating the development of Green Energy Corridors for integrating renewable power into the grid.
The country has simultaneously emerged as a leader in biofuels, achieving 20 per cent ethanol blending and introducing E85 fuel, containing 80–85 per cent ethanol, to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and lower emissions.
Strengthening the Voice of the Global South
At the international level, India continues to champion clean energy cooperation through initiatives such as the International Solar Alliance and the Global Biofuels Alliance.
As BRICS Chair, India aims to advance the priorities of the Global South by promoting practical cooperation in energy security, resilient supply chains, technology innovation and sustainable development.
Preparatory Meetings Already Underway
To build consensus ahead of the ministerial meeting, three virtual meetings of Senior Energy Officials have already been conducted. Additionally, two thematic seminars focusing on:
- Role of Artificial Intelligence in the Energy Sector
- Advancements in Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) Technologies
were organised with active participation from all BRICS member countries.
These engagements have helped identify key areas for deeper collaboration and policy coordination among member nations.

The gathering will also reinforce India’s growing role as a key voice of the Global South in shaping an inclusive and sustainable global energy architecture.
