Australia’s largest low-cost carrier, Jetstar, is making great use of its 11 Airbus A321LRs on both international and domestic routes, including its service between Adelaide-Darwin-Bali. Bali has long been a favored holiday spot for Australians, especially those escaping the harsh winters in the south, but it seems it is just as popular for those on its doorstep in northern Australia.
The Jetstar A321LRs are moving north
Today, Jetstar announced it is boosting services for Northern Territorians by adding 54,000 new low-fare seats over the coming months, including between Darwin and Bali. The airline is adding new capacity by increasing flight frequencies and operating larger aircraft, such as the A321LR, on domestic and Bali routes.

Over the next seven months, the schedule and aircraft changes will increase seats to and from the Northern Territory (NT) by 12% compared to the current services. Close to half of the increased capacity will add more seats on the Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport (SYD) to Uluru Ayers Rock Airport (AYQ), with an extra two flights a week bringing 22,000 more seats to the route. In a little more detail, Jetstar will:
- Increase weekly services during periods of higher demand on Darwin to Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide, and Sydney to Uluru.
- Upgrade from A320 to larger A321ceo aircraft between Darwin and Melbourne from July 3.
- Fly more of the newer and larger Airbus A321LRs between Darwin and Bali and Adelaide from August 2.
Jetstar Executive Manager, Customer Jenn Armor said the LCC is ready to take off more in 2024 to and from Darwin and Uluru and with 52,000 more seats between the NT and four Australian capitals, and Bali it will give Territorians greater choice and travel options.
“We’re incredibly excited to be flying the newest aircraft in our fleet, the Airbus A321LR, on the popular Darwin to Adelaide and Bali routes from August.”
The A321LR will open more than 2,200 new seats on Darwin to Bali between August and October. Around 90,000 passengers fly with Jetstar between Darwin and Bali annually, although not all are looking for a low-cost beach holiday.
A gateway to Asia
The route has become an efficient gateway into Asia for Territorians. From Bali passengers can connect to destinations across Asia, the Middle East, Europe and the United Kingdom on Jetstar, Qantas, codeshare and interline partners.
With just one relatively short hop between Bali and Singapore, customers can connect with Jetstar Asia’s (3K) network of 13 destinations, including popular tourist spots like Kuala Lumpur, Okinawa and Bangkok.
According to fleet data from ch-aviation, Jetstar has a fleet of 81 aircraft, including 70 Airbus A320 Family and 11 Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners. The listing shows 53 Airbus A320-200s, six A321-200s, and 11 A321LRs, with nearly 100 aircraft on order. Jetstar will have an extremely competitive and low-emission fleet of single-aisle aircraft for years to come, with orders in place for 45 A320neos, 11 A321-200neos, 22 A321LRs and 15 of the yet-to-be-released A321XLR.

Not all of the changes have to do with the aircraft, as after 20 years of flying in black and orange, Jetstar frontline staff are now looking forward to their new dynamic blue and softer orange set of uniforms. The new uniforms will be worn by pilots, cabin crew and airport team members in Australia and at Jetstar airlines based in New Zealand, Japan and Singapore.
