NTPC Bongaigaon conducted a joint mock drill on disaster management in coordination with CISF, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Local Police and NTPC Hospital to assess the preparedness and coordination of multiple agencies during emergency situations.
The exercise was conducted under the guidance of Anurag Gupta, General Manager (O&M), NTPC Bongaigaon, and under the supervision of L. N. Meitei, Commandant, CISF, NTPC Bongaigaon. Personnel from NTPC Management, CISF Fire Wing and CISF Security Wing also participated in the exercise.
The drill simulated two different disaster situations. In the first scenario, an earthquake was assumed to have caused the collapse of the New Service Building, with seven casualties presumed trapped inside the structure. Teams from the participating agencies coordinated search, rescue and evacuation operations, successfully locating and rescuing all the trapped casualties before handing them over to the NTPC medical team for first aid and further treatment.
The second scenario focused on water-related emergencies and involved two separate drowning incidents. One casualty was shown trapped in a flood-like situation, while another was involved in a pond-drowning incident. Rescue teams responded promptly and demonstrated search, water-rescue and casualty-evacuation techniques in both situations.
The exercise also tested communication and coordination between the agencies involved, providing an opportunity to identify areas for further strengthening of emergency response mechanisms, particularly in search and rescue, evacuation, first aid and casualty management.
A total of 117 personnel participated in the mock drill. The participants included 24 personnel from NDRF, nine from SDRF, six from NTPC Hospital, 28 from NTPC Management, 28 from the CISF Fire Wing and 22 from the CISF Security Wing, besides representatives of the Local Police.
The successful completion of the drill demonstrated the preparedness of the participating agencies and their ability to coordinate search, rescue, medical assistance and evacuation operations during emergencies and disaster situations.
