GOTHENBURG : Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi met Mr. Robert Maersk Uggla, Chairman of Maersk, in Gothenburg, holding wide-ranging discussions on expanding investments and strengthening collaboration across India’s rapidly growing maritime, logistics and infrastructure sectors.

The meeting highlighted the strong and longstanding partnership between India and the global shipping and logistics major, with discussions centering on unlocking new opportunities in port infrastructure, maritime logistics, supply chain development, green shipping and skilled workforce mobility.

Prime Minister Modi underscored India’s emergence as a major global manufacturing, trade and logistics hub, driven by transformative initiatives such as PM Gati Shakti, Sagarmala, National Logistics Policy and port-led development programmes. He emphasized the vast investment potential available in India’s expanding maritime ecosystem and invited Maersk to deepen its engagement in the country’s next phase of infrastructure growth.

PM Modi appreciated Maersk’s longstanding presence and contribution in India, particularly in strengthening container logistics, supply chain integration and maritime connectivity. He encouraged the company to explore fresh investment avenues in port modernization, multimodal logistics, warehousing, inland connectivity and digital supply chain solutions.

During the discussions, both sides reviewed opportunities to advance cooperation in green shipping and maritime decarbonisation, areas increasingly critical to the future of global trade. The deliberations included potential collaboration on cleaner fuels, sustainable maritime operations, energy-efficient logistics systems and environmentally responsible shipping practices.

The meeting also focused on skilled mobility and workforce development, with both sides exploring ways to strengthen cooperation in maritime talent, training and skill development to support the evolving needs of the global shipping and logistics industry.
