Alaska to launch Sonoma-Vegas this fall
Alaska is expanding its network at Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport (STS) with the addition of Harry Reid Las Vegas Airport (LAS). Kirsten Amrine, vice president of network planning and revenue management at Alaska Airlines, commented,
“As the only airline serving all four Bay Area airports, including Santa Rosa, San Francisco, San Jose and Oakland, we can’t wait to connect guests between Santa Rosa and Las Vegas and have them experience our premium, award-winning service.”
AS will compete with Avelo Airlines on this route – the ultra-low-cost carrier launched flights in September 2021 and currently operates four weekly services to/from Vegas. With Las Vegas joining the network in October, AS will serve a total of seven destinations from Sonoma County this fall, also including Burbank, Los Angeles, Orange County, Portland, San Diego and Seattle.
Alaska passengers flying to Sonoma County will benefit from its unique ‘Wine Flies Free’ program, which allows Mileage Plan members to fly home with an entire case (12 bottles) free of charge. The airline’s three-class E175 fleet can seat up to 76 passengers – 12 in first class, 12 in premium and 52 in economy.
13 peak day departures
By this fall, the carrier will be operating up to 13 peak day departures from STS. Alaska has been the largest carrier at Sonoma County Airport since 2007, opening up convenient access to Northern California’s famous wine region. It was the airport’s first commercial flight operator and has since served over two million customers and counting.

According to Cirium data, AS has over 10,000 seats scheduled for April, more than double that offered by the next largest operator, Avelo Airlines. However, Avelo is due to launch four more routes in May after recently establishing a new base at the airport, stationing two Boeing 737s there. It currently serves four destinations – Burbank, Las Vegas, Palm Springs and Redmond – but this will expand to eight in May with the addition of Boise, Kalispell, Salem and Tri-Cities, WA.
