The Dutch flag carrier KLM has officially touched down in the State of Oregon. The SkyTeam Alliance carrier is taking over the longstanding Portland to Amsterdam route from transatlantic partner Delta Air Lines, with the first Dreamliner touching down yesterday.
All the way to Amsterdam
KLM is expanding its transatlantic network with a direct service from Amsterdam to Portland International Airport (PDX) in Oregon, its 21st destination in North America. The largest city in the state, Portland, is considered a year-round destination and serves as a gateway to the Pacific Northwest, including Mount Hood, the Columbia River Gorge, and Forest Park.

They will collectively serve 18 US airports from Schiphol this winter.
The flights commenced on October 27, 2024, with the inaugural service taking place on KLM’s 100th Anniversary Livery Boeing 787 Dreamliner (PH-BKA). The flight took just under ten hours and arrived in the early afternoon to a water cannon salute and welcome reception. Speaking to local media, Dan Pippenger, Chief Aviation Officer at Port of Portland, noted how vital the connection is for the community:
“Not only is it a nonstop – which is super important – but it really provides one stop and connectivity to the rest of Europe, the Middle East, India and Africa.”
The flights replace those operated by joint venture partner
Delta Air Lines, which has been flying between Amsterdam and Portland for 15 years, most recently with its 282-seat Airbus A330-300s.
When are the flights from Portland to Amsterdam?
As of this week, KLM will fly three times a week on Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday between Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS) and Portland for the remainder of the winter season. The flights are operated by the Boeing 787-9 and offer 30 seats in World Business Class, 21 in Premium Comfort Class, and 224 in Economy Class. The winter flight schedule is as follows:
- KL615 departs from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS) at 10:25 and arrives at Portland at 11:25 local time.
- KL616 departs Portland International Airport at 13:25 and arrives in Amsterdam the following day at 07:50.
In summer 2025, KLM will fly between Schiphol and Portland five times a week on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday. The summer flight schedule for next year is as follows:
- KL615 departs from Amsterdam at 10:40 and arrives in Portland at 11:30 a.m.
- KL616 departs Portland International Airport at 13:30 in Amsterdam the next day at 07:55.

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines is far from the only carrier offering international from Portland International Airport. Air Canada is the largest international carrier at the airport, with three daily flights to Vancouver (YVR). Alaska Airlines also operates several international routes from the airport. According to data from Cirium, the oneworld Alliance carrier will fly to Cancun (CUN), Puerto Vallarta (PVR), and Los Cabos (SJD) next month.
