Virgin Atlantic has announced it will be returning to Mexico with three weekly flights between London Heathrow and Cancun next winter, using its A350-1000 fleet. It will be the only direct route between Heathrow and Cancun and provide travelers with extensive onward connectivity via codeshare partners Aeromexico and LATAM.
Virgin Atlantic to launch London-Cancun with A350-1000 next winter
According to a release from the carrier, the new service will commence on October 19th, 2025, using its 397-seater Airbus A350-1000 aircraft. Flights between London Heathrow Airport (LHR) and Cancun International Airport (CUN) will operate three times a week – Wednesday, Friday and Sunday – on the following schedule:

Onward connections with fellow
SkyTeam member Aeromexico and codeshare partner LATAM include Mexico City, Buenos Aires, Lima and Santiago. While this will be the only route between Heathrow and Cancun, both British Airways and TUI Airways fly to Cancun out of London Gatwick Airport (LGW), while TUI also operates direct flights from Manchester (MAN) and Birmingham (BHX).
Return fares in economy will start at £562 ($725) per person and tickets will be available to purchase from December 4th, 2024. Virgin will also offer all-inclusive holiday packages, including flights, for seven nights in Riviera Maya, starting at £1,799 ($2,323) per person.

Cancun International is the second-busiest airport in Mexico behind Mexico City International (MEX) and handled over 32 million passengers in 2023. Its international links are extensive, particularly its connections to the US, served by the likes of American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and United Airlines.

The airport is the main gateway to the Mexican Caribbean, one of the world’s most-visited tourist destinations, offering sandy beaches, Mayan ruins, nightlife, and ecotourism. Andres Martinez, Director of the Tourism Promotion Council of Quintana Roo, added,
“The addition of this Virgin Atlantic flight from London Heathrow to Cancun will further strengthen Cancun International Airport’s position as one of the most in-demand airports in the world.”
Onboard Virgin’s biggest plane
Virgin Atlantic’s new “leisure” A350s feature 16 lie-flat beds in Upper Class, 56 Premium and 325 economy seats, as well as onboard social lounge “The Booth” for Upper Class customers. The Booth is an extension of Virgin’s Clubhouse experience and features a cocktail, food and wine menu in an elegant setting.
